Dedication for Day one! courtesy of Laura Daley

So as i have mentioned a time or two in my blog, Aaron has set it up on the donation page that all donars of 50 dollars or more are allowed to ask us to dedicate one day or our ride to a particular cause, person, thought, feeling or whatever else they wish to dedicate something to. Our first dedicated day was actually DAY 1 and that was courtesy of a very good and dear friend of mine Laura Daley.
I met Laura around five or six years ago while I was working in Tucson, and we quickly became close friends. she is one of the most intuitive people I have ever met, and she has some amazing insight into things. Larua has always been a great friend to me, giving me excellent advice, and direction, and always both encouragin, and supporting me in my endevors. I cannot say enough about her. She is truly one of the people who I could say the world is much better because she is a part of it. I know that my life is brighter with her a part of it. With that being said, she was the first to get back to us wiht a dedication, once I notified her that she is granted that as a result of her very generous donation.
Laura had an extremely stressful, and crazy day last week. She found herself in Lousiana moving her daughter into school after the break, and was planning on flying toDallas to work the next day. When she called into her office, they said she was supposed to be in dallas that day already, and she needed to get tehre. So stressed, and angry, and everything in between, she hustled her way to the airport, nad jumped on a southwest flight to Dallas. Wiht all the shit that was going on, she was able to be put at ease. She said that every single person on that southwest flight, went out of there way to make her feel welcome, feel taken care of, and to smile. Each and every single one ofthem. She said that as a result of that flight, she was able to feel better, and itwas by the simplest of gestures by the cabin crew on that flight. So what Laura asked us t o do on our first day was to do the little things that day, that would make others smile. to think ofthe things that made us smile, and to try and be that little light in someones day, who otherwise may have had none.
Aaron and I did this as often as we could. We talked a bit about it before we left. We were of course nervuos and scared, and all that, but we just tried to encourage one another, and keep smiling. Of course once we had to go and put on our biker shorts, and our gear, we couldnt help but laughing. Tying our bikes to the top of a fricken Geo metro or a car small like itmade us smile. Getting dumped on the side of the road before the mouth ofthe cobra made us smile. Durin the ride, when we made it to La Chorrera we were fricken stoked and smiling ear to ear. We smiled at everyone we passed, and said hello in spanish. We raised our hands and waved at the little kids in their yards who screamed at us waving to get our attention. We smiled at each other when we finished the cobra road or whatever it was called. WE completed our first day, got a hotel, got in before it started raining, at grubbin ass food, and smiled at every worker, emplyee, and even people on hte street, because it seemed to be contagious. Those who know me know that I dont often smile for no reason, but I am finding that the more I do it, the more people do it back, adn the easier it gets. Give what you want to receive is the lesson I am learning.
